Well, here's my first post at my new Townhall.com blog. Since there is a separate bio section, I'll leave my background and whatnot to that. Instead, I would like to take this opportunity to just mention some of the things I'd like to discuss here.
As someone who considers themselves a conservative/libertarian and something of a history buff, the direction our country is heading truly concerns me. It just seems something is terribly wrong. The trouble is, so many people focus on individual issues...this or that policy, whether or not a judge is being given proper discussion in the Senate, the policies that are being employed to fight the "War on Terror," abortion, etc. What is rarely discussed is whether or not the things our government does is actually within the realm of it's responsibilities. I believe this is a real travesty that the conservative movement is focusing more on single issues and winning elections for the Republican Party than it is on discussing this question that should be central to all debate involving government, at any level.
That is basically what I'd like to cover here...what is the role of government, how has the government gone well beyond its intended role in the U.S., and what can be done about it? These are questions that the Founding Fathers (with all do respect to my grandparents' generation, they were truly the Greatest Generation) discussed at great length and it seems instructive that those discussions are reviewed and discussed in the context of modern America.
In the immortal words of Thomas Paine, "these are the times that try men's souls." It's time we discuss what we might do to correct that problem.
